My Review:
Overall, I gave this book 3.5 stars. It was a three-star read for most of the book, but the ending picks up and has a pretty good twist, so I’m bumping it up to 3.5 stars.
For spiciness, I’m just going to rate it a 1. This is a YA book, so the spice is more inferred than explicit.
It was a fun story overall. I liked the magic and the world-building, though I’m not totally sure if it was supposed to be a completely different world or just our world with magical elements. (Per the synopsis it’s supposed to be a Regency inspired fantasy world…not sure I got that.)
I do wish there had been more explanation of how the magic worked.
The main character, whose name I think is Niamh, has an illness, but I never completely understood what that illness was or how it worked.
Overall, I also think a lot of the characters could have used more depth. While we get a good sense of the main character and her motivations, some of the other characters aren’t as well-developed.
Despite these issues, it’s a cute book and an easy read. If you’re looking for something light or have teens who enjoy YA fiction, they would probably really enjoy this. *A Fragile Enchantment* by Alison Saft is a sweet and charming read.
